Propolis is a sticky resin exuded by trees - particularly conifers - and collected by bees. They use it to repair and waterproof the hive and it can be a problem for beekeepers because it not only sticks parts of the hive together but it can gum their hands or gloves up too!

Propolis is reckoned to have antiseptic and medicinal properties.
