Best Answer

A proprietary OS is like Apple's MacOS for their computers and the iOS for their iPhones, and iPads or Microsofts Windows OS for examples. They have complete control over who can use it and how they use it. No one else is allowed to make any version of them, etc.

What is better an Android OS on a tablet and a Google Android OS in a Nook?

Well, it depends on what your needs are if you are searching for a tablet mainly for reading. The Nook has proprietary apps that are specific to that device that you might not find in a tablet with Android OS. However, you would have limited app choices, and an older Android OS built in with the Nook.

What is proprietary operating system?

propietary operating systems is one where an company designs, develops and markets it as their own system. Windows is one, OS X is another. You must buy it from them or one of their resellers. Linux is an open source OS which you can do what you want with it after you download it for free from the internet. This is what open source means. Do not confuse proprietary operating systems with proprietary applications or software. These are programs developed by a specific company for a specific purpose when off the shelf software will not meet their needs.
