The protagonist is the main character of the story. Everything evolves around him/her. Usually, in a story, the protagonist wants to reach a goal, but many obstacles are in his path to reach this goal. These obstacles can be natural (a storm, a tornado) or human. The human obstacles doesn't want that the protagonist reach his/her goal. The human obstacles are called "Antagonist". Other characters in a story are called minor characters. These characters can help the protagonist to reach his/her goal, or be simply "decorations" and do not interact with the protagonist. There can be more than one protagonist or antagonist in a story.

A protagonist is the main character of a story. An antagonist is the oppositionist to the protagonist. Contrary to popular belief, a protagonist doesn't necessarily mean they are a "good guy" or the like, and an antagonist doesn't mean they are a "bad guy". An explanation of this could be that plenty of literature centers a protagonist who could be considered "evil".
Such a character is often referred to as the antagonist, who plays a significant role in opposing the protagonist and driving the conflict forward. They may have their own motivations, goals, and character arc that directly clash with those of the protagonist. This character's presence creates tension and challenges for the protagonist to overcome.
