The methods and principals used in the purification of colloids are:

Dialysis - This process is based on the fact that membranes contain very small pores through which only dissolved molecules and ions of the true solution can pass readily.

  • Electro-dialysis - Used when the substance being removed is an electrolyte, substance is removed under an electronic field. The electrolyte icons pass through the membrance due to electrostatic pull of oppositely charged electrodes.
  • Hemi dialysis - Blood of patients with kidney problems is purified by machines.

Ultra filtration - Filtration through filter paper treated with Gelatin or collodoin which allows only crystalloid particles can pass.

Centrifugation - Impurities are removed from colloids with the help of a machine of high speed called centrifugal machine. Colloids settle down while impurities remain in centrifuge.
