It prevents the power window switches other than the driver's from operating.
If the sliding door on the 1999 Mercury Villager will not stay open, check for something that is not allowing the latching mechanism to lock into place. Make sure that the door is all the way back so that it can lock in.
replace the lock actuator (motor)
Make sure the key lock under the rear window is turned to the door unlock position ,not the glass unlock position.
The door lock, on your 1999 Mercury cougar, can be replaced by removing the inside door panel. The locking mechanism is easily visible and can be changed.
The door does not lock with the "door lock" button from the inside to prevent locking your key inside of the car. Simply turn the key in the door when you close it to lock all the doors.
Take te child lock off of the door
Could be the interior lamp switch which is activated by raising the outside door handle or pressing a code button on the electronic door lock control system.

There is no "master" reset button for door locks. If they are not working, there is a problem either at: # The individual door lock actuator inside the door # A problem with the switche(s) - the main switch on the driver's door handle, or the switch on the individual door.

If you turn on the key and there is a light that says ABS, then it does. ABS was an option that year.b
Remove a battery cable for about 5 min. While waiting to install it open the drivers door. Install cable without shuting the door lock it with the lock button on the door panel(power door lock button), now shut the door and unlock it with the key.. This should work it did for me
