Salvage and Overhaul (Sometimes called S&O by some departments) generally happens at the end stages of a fire. I won't go too into exactly what's done, because it would be a really long answer, but the basic goal of Salvage and Overhaul is to seek out hidden fire and smoldering materials in walls, floors, ceilings, and room or structure contents. The process can also include tarping of room contents and valuables to protect from water and/or fire damage.

Just as a personal note, it's the part of firefighting I hated most :)
