The answer to this depends who or what one believes in.
As a Christian believer I know it means at least three things.
Firstly, it means there is peace and joy and assurance in knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and savior.
Secondly, it frequently means disappointment and shame on myself for failing, since I would wish always to do my best for Him who went through horrible agony for me.
Thirdly, it also means persecution, which comes in various forms. Often it is just ignorance and misunderstanding, but also frequently ridicule and blatant hostility.
Being a believer also means I don't have all the answers, but I know God does. I also know, that if the Christian faith is historically and factually true, then there will be some evidence of this. The 5000 archaeological finds (as documented by Dr. Clifford Wilson) which support the historicity of the Biblical record do not make me a believer, nor do I require them to believe. They simply are no surprise at all and are what one would expect if The Bible were true. The evidence of ancient knowledge of the one true God, by heathen who had never been evangelized or met a Christian missionary is another thing one would expect to find.
These evidences are what a Christian believer expects. Dr. Wilson and others also point out that there is no contrary evidence. This is also true in the whole subject of creation. As a believer no proof is needed. God created the world and all that is in it. Nothing contradicts this. The Bible is 100% accurate, especially when rightly understood, in whatever it says, about scientific matters. This is a belief which believers have regardless of any evidence. The evidence, when rightly understood, just lines up with it.
When there is a need to mis-quote the Bible to prove it wrong. When there is an apparent need to ridicule the Bible at every turn, the believer understands the basis for this and the deception ultimately behind it.
A believer in God is a Christian. Christian means Christ-like.

Christianity has only one God called God.

In the old testament the mark of Gods people was circumcision. Under God's new covenant there is no physical mark. The mark of God on believers in Christ Jesus is the circumcision of the soul which is the cutting away of sin. The mark of God on the believer is the turning away from a life obsessed with self to a life following God's ways and in relationship with Him

Atheist comes from "theist," a believer in god or gods, and "a-" meaning not. Monotheist, polytheist, and pantheist have the same root. So atheist means one who does not believe in God.
