The simplest metaphor for the ocean could be the human mind. Quiet and peaceful one day, stormy and dangerous the next. Some parts warm, some parts icy cold. Some oceans are deep and some shallow, some crystal clear and some murky. Waves could be the ocean's attempt to communicate its existence to others, as we use language. The ocean is being gradually and irreversibly polluted, like our minds tend to be. The ocean is fed by rivers bringing new supplies, just as the mind receives new ideas.

Apostrophe means to address something than cannot reply back. Byron was born with a clubbed foot so he was naturally a good swimmer and loved the ocean.
