One definition is, space is the almost totally empty area beyond Earth's atmosphere and between celestial bodies. When we say, John Glenn went into space. This is the definition of space we mean.

The other definition is difficult to explain and visualize. It's where everything is and it's composed of void/matter/time which Einstein called the space-time continuum.
