Nothing- it is just the most traditional design and similar in layout to a typewriter,which helps some doing it by feel. you know you have one if the keys say that from left to right.
The computer keyboard is the same as the typewriter keyboard. The typewriter did have special keys that were not on the keyboard, like the tab keys that indented. The keyboard also has extra function keys that were not on the typewriter.

I think if it's an old computer keyboard it is a pound sign (£), but if it is a new keyboard it is that line thing, like this: - but vertical, not horizontal.
The Japanese have a special keyboard with Kangi characters.
The Ti-92 is an advanced calculator, the same as the Ti-89, only it had a built in keyboard. It is special because it is the only calculator with a built in keyboard. Unfortunately it was discontinued recently.
Special or otherwise, it is usually a separate key. Look to the top right of your keyboard.
Special characters are found by holding down the shift key above the numbers.
