It should be stamper, tamper, etc. Actually, what the answerer abovethinks is being asked for is the word "stammered" which is the past tense of the word "to stammer". Stammering is a correct word which means something similar to stuttering: stammering is getting stuck on a vowel sound and stuttering is getting stuck on a consonant sound. There is no such word as "stampered". "Stamped", yes, "stampede", yes, "scampered", yes, "stammered", yes, but "stampered", no.
