It is not gold. Circulation-issue Bicentennial quarters were only struck in cupronickel, like all other circulation quarters since 1965. In fact, no gold coins have been struck for circulation since 1933.

A lot of private companies put a thin plating of gold on ordinary quarters and sell them at significant markups. You can find the same thing done to the current series of state quarters. However the plating is generally so thin that it only adds a couple of cents to the coin's actual value.

In addition, from a numismatic standpoint these coins are considered to be novelty items because they were altered outside of the mint, so they do not have any special value to mainstream coin collectors.

The US Bicentennial was in 1976 not 1973, look at it again and post new question.

Well now aren't you a genius. Why do you insist on answering questions you know nothing about. The coin in question is indeed dated 1973, knothead know-it-all. It is sterling silver, minted by our own us mint, and weighs a little more than an ounce. That makes the ASW 1 troy ounce. So questioneer, take heart. Despite this stupid answer, from this ignorant person, your coin is at least worth spot silver price which is $30.65 at this very moment. Thank you and good day.

The U.S. Mint never made a gold quarter for any year. So if yours is gold, then somebody took a normal quarter and gold plated it. This destroys any collector value it may have had. It's now worth 25 cents, and will never be worth more than that.

If the coin did have any collectible value, the plating destroyed it, but it's still a dollar.

Face value. The amount of gold plating is so tiny that it doesn't add any value to the coin, in fact, collectors view these coins as damaged. They have no value beyond face value.

What is a value of 1973 bicentennial commemorative medal?

So, everyone seems to be missing the point of this coin. It is a bicentennial comemorative coin of the American Revolution, not Independence Day. In March of 1773, a secret meeting of the Virginia House of Burgesses established a Commitee of Correspondence, whose membership included Sam Adams, Patrick henry, Thomas Jefferson and Richard Henry Lee. They were charged with informing the populace at large of British actions against American liberties and to mobilze resistance against these incursions. By early 1774, all but 2 of the colonies had joined the movement.

How much are your 1976 American revolution bicentennial commemorative dollar?

All US bicentennial coinage has the dual date 1776-1976 not 1973, none of the bicentennial half dollar coins made for general circulation contain any silver or are worth more than face value. Only Proof and collectors coins sold from the US Mint are worth more.
