Answer: Not sure if this is really an answer, but I read something about this in Rome Sweet Home, a book by Scott and Kimberly Hahn. Answer: The Roman Catholic church believes that sex exists purely to produce children, so contraception is therefore a sin. The Anglican churches believe that lovemaking within marriage is a way of uniting a man and woman in physical union, so contraception is acceptable within marriage.

The Church's official stance is that the use of contraception is sinful. When a couple is married, the Church encourages the calendar method of family planning.

The pope recently issued a statement regarding condoms that was highly misunderstood. He said essentially that if condoms prevent HIV, then they are the lesser of two evils, but this in no way is the Church condoning the use of condoms or any other contraception.

Roman Catholic AnswerSex is a gift from God that is directed towards two ends: the mutual love and support of a married man and woman; and the procreation of children. If either of these ends is missing, then the sex is a sin. This would include sex outside of a marriage between a man and a woman, sex just for one's own pleasure, etc. Artificial contraception of any time is frustrating the design for which God created sex and is thus a sin. Freely chosen and willed, it can easily be a mortal sin, thus turning completely away from God and choosing hell. Each and every marital act must be open to life, and to the other person. To choose contraception is to choose oneself over God.

Are Catholic churches and Anglican churches similar?

One viewThe Anglican Church is the ancient Catholic Church in England. Its provenance, or beginning, is well recorded by the early fathers as being about the time of the Crucifixion. See the Councils of the Roman Church in the Middle Ages where it is closely discussed.Another view In outward appearances, many Church of England churches bear a resemblance to Catholicism, but that is where the similarity ends. Catholicism is the Mystical Body of Christ, and is guaranteed by Him under His Vicar, the Pope in Rome. The Church of England is a protestant church created many centuries later by the King, Queen, and Parliament.
