There is not a "Symbol" for mother, there is a word. Without the ability to insert the font, or the pictures for the font, the word is close to "O h Lr" -- "U-ni-tsi" phonetically it sounds like (this is a harder word than some others) "eww-nee-(t)ChE" long "ooo or eww" - silent"(k)" long "nee" quick, almost silent "(t)" "CE" or "CHE" (CHE a touch louder than the other part of the word).

It's not just a matter of fractions any more. You have to establish you are the direct relative of a Cherokee who was listed on one of the government rolls taken around the turn of the last century (Dawes Rolls). By the old way of keeping track if your mother was Cherokee, no matter what your father was, you were Cherokee, too. Chief John Ross had a Scottish father. Both his grandfathers were Scottish, too. Even though by fractions he was only 1/8 Cherokee and 7/8 Scottish, because his mother's mother's mother was Cherokee so was he. If you want to pursue tribal membership contact the office in Tahlequah, OK.
