Gordon Rule - Communication and Computation Skill Requirements The State of Florida State Board of Education has developed a policy on "College-Level Communication and Computation Skills," known as the Gordon Rule. The 12 writing credits must be distributed as follows: 6 credits of English course work (College Writing 1 and 2) and 6 credits of additional course work in which the student is required to demonstrate college-level writing skills through multiple assignments. For the computational requirement, 6 credits of mathematics must be in courses at or above the level of college algebra.
