What is the Importance of ergonomics in a salon?

While I am not an expert in this area ergonomics refers to the way in which we work. It is the anatomical, physiological and mechanical principles that we should use in order to make our jobs performance safe and efficient e.g when lifting heavy objects you should always bend down from the knees to lift not bend from the back and lift. Try to avoid doing repetitive motions or if your job entails doing repetition then hand braces, back braces etc. should be worn for extra support.It is important in a salon because as hairstylists you are doinga lot of lifting of boxes for stocking, repetitive hand movements such as hair washing, blow drying , hair rolling, smooth ironing hair etc. this is a lot of stress and wear and tear on your backs, legs, hands etc. you should look into who to contact in your area to suggest what steps should be taken in order to avoid the negative effects of repetitive motions (e.g. repetitive hand movement = carpal tunnel syndrome). I would suggest checking with OSHA (occupational safety and health agency- government agency) to point you in the proper direction. OSHA also will supply free videos concerning this topic.
