The true meaning of Christmas. Dickens tries to highlight those who have plenty and the greater number who have little or nothing and how we all should remember that caring, sharing and helping those who can't help themselves is not just 12 days over Christmas but everyday throughout the year
One allusion in "A Christmas Carol" is the reference to the biblical story of Jacob Marley's ghost appearing to Scrooge with chains representing his past sins, reflecting the idea of redemption and transformation. Another allusion is the portrayal of the three Christmas spirits echoing the biblical theme of repentance and spiritual awakening.
Dickens wrote the story with a focus on characters being issue of the time. Example Scrooge represented the Upper classes who were ignorant of the plight of the poor and those less well off as themselves. He used Bob Cratchit to be those who were lucky enough to have some work but whose treatment by employers was far less than acceptable especially in pay and conditions. The use of Christmas is simple - This is the attitude of the masses to each other at this time of year when people are more friendly and supportive (because it Christmas) but Dickens tries to show that Christmas is not just a one off day, it's in fact the attitude that should be shown every day. Therefore by having these messages subliminally amid the story line the works became an "allegory"
The allusion is the weather and Jacob Marley.
