The first use of a chicks beak is to break out of the egg shell in which it was born.

From that point the chick uses the beak to eat and defend itself. Although shaped differently the beak works similar to a humans mouth.

That flappy thing under the chicken's beak is called a wattle. On other animals, when it is covered with hair, it is called a dewlap. In some cases, the wattle is good for distributing heat when an animal does not have the ability to sweat. In birds, it is also a sign of sexual maturity and an ornament used in attracting the opposite sex.
