What is the average life span of a parakeet?

my parakeet lasted about 7 years which is about a 1 1/2 years longer than the life span. So it's probably about 5-6 years. But it also depends on how well you take care of it, it can live longer or shorter than that period of time. Unfortunatley a lot of birds don't like the cold and can die faster if over exposed in captivity. My parakeet died about 1 year ago in March, she was a mean little bird but she was defintly loved.
