The rate for babysitters in California currently ranges from about $10 to $25 an hour depending on the babysitter's experience and if they are good with kids or not, and sometimes even age. For example, if you hire a high school student, of course it'll be cheaper then lets say a college or post college sitter. Ranking the professional nannies at the highest rates. Most parents would rather hire someone more responsible and will be able to deal with emergencies. Professional Nannies usually demand a lot of hours and charge a lot more, but you'd feel more safe leaving your kids/infants with them. For responsible sitters at a lower rate, college students are ideal ($12-$18 /hr). When you start of babysitting it is important that you do not sound pushy. this may put them of if they feel the rate is too high. In my opinion it is up to the parents of the child/ren you are looking after. Once people get to know you, they may start paying you more. It also depends on how many children they have. they may pay you more, but they may also have less money which means the rate may not differ very much. Once you have babysat a few times, people may start to tell other people about you, which will mean more money from more families!

I am nearly 14, and I do babysitting... however I live in England. From the 1 child I currently look after I get about £4.00 an hour. So about $5.70.

We pay ours $15 per hour for 2 kids that are 8 and 10 (pretty easy to watch)
