This is a bit tricky as you have to define whether you mean at the bottom of the Grand Canyon at Phantom Ranch or at the top at either the North Rim or South Rim. They routinely differ by an average of 20 degrees. The previous coldest record was set in 1985 on the North Rim with a temperature of 22 below zero. However, that record was broken by a wide margin on Friday, December 31st, 2010 when a new record of 30 below zero was recorded.
July temperatures at the bottom of the Grand Canyon easily average 120 F in the sun and 105 F in the shade. The hours between 10 am and 4 pm are considered the heat of the day, so if hiking, it is best to rest between these times.
