THE basic rule of brainstorming is that each idea is merely written up on a whiteboard, and no attempt at evaluation is made during the 'idea generation' phase. Just stomp on any attempt at analysis during this phase. This will encourage 'way out' ideas and concepts. The allocated writer (or other leader) can go round the group in turn if ideas start to slow. You may then go on to combining or contrasting ideas to discover more associations.
