You need to wait until the baby is 6 weeks old. This is when the baby should be weaned off the milk its mother feeds it. Make sur the baby is eating solid food before you separate the baby from the mother.
Baby guinea pigs NEED to be separated from their mom at 2-3 weeks old, because they can get their mom pregnant!! But they can be given new homes when they are 5 or 6 weeks old. If they are any younger it is too stressfull on them.
I wouldn't say there's an age. You just have to be responsible enough to take care of one. PLEASE research about guinea pigs positives and negatives before getting one. If you are too scared or not able to hold the guinea pig during the first couple of days, this is completely normal. I would suggest waiting a while or asking someone who already knows.
If you are a kid and asking this question, I'd say you are old enough. Join a Guinea Pig Chat before you go looking so you can be confident in what you are buying. Baby guinea pigs are born with their eyes open, all their hair and are the cutest things. They are completely weaned after about 10 days so try to find a young one.
If you are an adult and are asking the question, I would say no, not until he/she is old enough to do the research, join a chat and understand the commitment involved. As an animal consultant, I see too many pets sitting in cages or crates all day-alone with nothing to do because a parent bought their child a pet simply because he/she begged for one. Parents often promise a guinea pig instead of the puppy or kitten they really want.
Usually you can buy a guinea pig when it is 6-8 weeks old. I got mine when they were about 7 weeks old. make sure if you plan to get boys that they have been together since birth or are brothers...and girls are usually very social. Be warned....a fully grown piggy can be 12-14 inches long!!!
i got mine when they were babies so i would say at the youngest 4 weeks
12 in the UK. To buy any pet you must be 12 years old. A bit young to me but it is 12 in the UK.
Well you could buy a Guinea pig at any age but mainly round 3 to 7 weeks I think but don`t take my word for it
If your guinea pig is quite old [ 2+yrs] it will just be of old age as my guinea pig squeak is 3 and has had it for 1 year and is fine but if your guinea pig is young id take it to the vets as it may have an eye infection Jacinta Farrell age 11
You have to times the guinea pigs human years age by 16, like you times a dogs human years age by 7. For example if the guinea pig is 2 in human years then he will be 32 in guinea pig years.
Well, first of all, guana is the abbreviation of Guiana Island. Now you know what guana means. Second, a pig is a young swine that is not mature for it's age. So a guana pig is a pig that is from Guiana Island. Unless you mean guinea pig. A guinea pig means a small stout-bodied short-eared tailless domesticated rodent often kept as a pet.
It is spelled "guinea pig". You got it right! :)
The phenotype of the black guinea pig is black, and the pheno type of the white guinea pig is white.
at about 1
from at least 12 or 13
You can tell if a guinea pig is a boy or girl at the age of 4weeks
A guinea pig because they are fatter and cuttier
Well it would probably be best if you got a guinea pig from a breeder or a petstore
MAke a maze out of cardboard and have your guinea pig run through it.
You cannot. It's difficult to detrmine the age of a guinea pig once it's full grown. a vague age can be determined but nothing specific.
Guinea pig pellets are small pieces of food that guinea pigs eat. Pellets can be timothy based or alfalfa based. For an adult guinea pig a timothy based pellet is best because alfalfa includes extra protein and calcium that young (under age one) and pregnant guinea pigs need, but adult guinea pigs don't. Pellets should be available to guinea pigs at all times as they are the main part of a guinea pig's diet. Source Guinea pig owner
If you're looking for a guinea pig that doesn't shed, a Skinny Pig would be your best bet. They are hairless guinea pigs.
A guinea pig can be just 1 month old before they fall pregnent. But the ideal age to start your female guinea pig breeding is at 3-4 months and no earlier. You should stop breeding her when she reaches the age of 1 year old.Breeding can effect the lifespan of your friend and is not always the best thing to do.
Male guinea pigs can succesfully imprenate a female guinea pig at (I believe)only 8 weeks of age, however it takes about 9 months for the guinea pig to be fully grown.
An absynnian pig would be the best
