Cat6 cable is the very best. There is a Cat7 in the works but it is not yet readily available and the connector is different. So if you get Cat6 you have the very best available that will work on most everything. Coax DSL cable is superior but mainly used in industrial applications. A Cat6 shielded cable is also quite effective. In a pinch i have run two Cat6 side by side and punched the blue and orange of the first and the green and brown of the second cable on a single jack. This prevents crosstalk thus data loss. The Cat7 cable is a joke. It does not use an rj45 and is heavily shielded as to almost make it impractical.
The best service to use is Cable. Not only does it provide faster download speeds than DSL, it is also more affordable and more widely available.
You will need to buy a new modem that is designed for your DSL modem. This is due to the fact that the modem is designed to use the dsl signal opposed to the cable modem.

In some areas cable may be faster. Most times DSL is due to how the lines are shared.
DSL is sually faster because you are not sharing the line. Cable slows down as more people use it.
Dial up,cable and dsl are three types of?
Yes, you can have DSL and a Cable modem installed at the same residience. The DSL would use a phone line to connect to the web and the Cable modem would use a coaxial cable, like the kind that plugs into your TV.
No you can not. Cable modems use RF or Radio Frequency to transmit data, usually converting that RF frequency into fiber optic via a node. DSL or Digital Subscriber lines use electricity like a phone line. You could also say Cable modems use coaxial cable and DSL use telephone wire. The two modems are not interchangeable.
The cable modem allows the cable provider to plug their service into the back of the modem(coaxial cable) versus the DSL modem allows the phone company to plug their service into the back of the modem(phone line). The DSL service typically requires you to have a separate phone number from your main land line.
Actually mobile broadband is synonymous with DSL or cable since that is how it operates. In terms of DSL speed vs. cable, cable has a slight edge with maximum speeds of 2 megabytes per second. DSL can achieve 1.5 Mbps, in contrast.
