Testicles move freely in scrotum so a hit does not easily pop them. If they are squeezed, more force acts and they can't slip so they may pop easily. It also depends on the persons whose testicles you are squeezing. Boys who often get hits there have relatively harder testicles than boys like me who have only been hit once or twice. Testicles can even be as hard as stones if they are trained but they do not work in that case.

Its true that a blow to the testicles does not normally result in a rupture unless the gland is trapped against the pubic bone. A hard blow with a knee can do this quite easily, but only if the angle of attack is right. If it isn't, the glands will just skip out of the way as the blow lands.

When the gland does rupture, it will not be with a "pop", but with "give" slowly. You will feel it deform and then collapse with a "gristly" feel into a lumpy mush. Females attempting this will find that digging the thumnail into the organ as you squeeze will help to initiate the rupture.
