This article does not intend to either promote or discourage spanking, but rather is intended to give parents correct instruction on using non-abusive spanking in discipline.

Spanking is a much-debated topic. Most child psychologists do not recommend spanking as a discipline method for children. However, other psychologists and many parents will tell you that a spanking given with fairness, love and care is an effective discipline technique. The decision as to the usefulness of spanking is best made by a child's parents.

It is gravely unfortunate that, there are many children who are abused under the guise of spanking, and this article is an attempt to inform parents in a way that would prevent abuse.

There are two possible answers depending upon whether we are talking about children or sexual spankings...


CHILDREN:

Based on some parenting books is it is best to have a firm open palm with a stroke of the hand that will not cause reddening of the skin or whelps. Use a deep commanding voice of "NO" or "THAT IS WRONG" do not continue the spanking if the spank seems ineffective, instead opt for a time out or other forms of punishment that will get through to your child.


SEXUAL SPANKING or DOMESTIC DISCIPLINE:

The spankee should be positioned so that his/her butt is presented to the spanker. This can be accomplished by a traditional Over the Knee (OTK) positioning, with the spankee positioned on the bed over pillows (stategically placed so that their bottom is arched), or have them bend over something (such as the arm/back of a couch, a stool/chair, end of the bed, the kitchen table, etc).

Ideally, the butt should be warmed up with gentle swats followed by carresses. Once the actual spanking begins, strokes should be handed out in sets with little "breather breaks" in between lasting just long enough for the first set to sink in. This is also a good time to reposition the spankee if all their wiggling has gotten them out of position.

Every couple has different methods but keep in mind that spanking the top of the buttocks and the thighs hurts more. Spanking on the lower part (the seat) hurts less and allows for longer spanking sessions - it also makes the butt jiggle :)

Always start out slow, use only your hand until you get your technique down. Then you can begin experimenting with brushes and paddles.

Discuss using a safety word with your loved-one. This is an agreed upon word that, once spoken, the spanking is to stop immediately. Regardless of anything.
