The temperature on Pluto is about as cold as physically possible. The planet receives almost no heat from the Sun, so most of its atmosphere is perpetually frozen. It also has no discernible internal heat.

Scientists using the Submillimeter Array have discovered that Pluto's maximum temperature is about 43 K (−230 °C), 10 K colder than expected.

Pluto's surface temperature ranges from a low of -387 degrees Fahrenheit (-233 degrees Celsius, or 40 degrees Kelvin) to a high of -369 degrees Fahrenheit (-223 degrees Celsius, or 50 degrees Kelvin). More accurate temperature data should be recorded by the New Horizons probe when it reaches Pluto on July 14, 2015. For now, if the above data are correct, then the highest temperature on Pluto would be 369 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, or 223 degrees below zero Celsius.
