i don't know about the hr diagram but the brightest star known is r136a1
The brightest star on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram is typically found in the upper left corner, representing massive, hot, and luminous stars known as supergiants or giants. These stars have high luminosities and are located in the top portion of the diagram.
Several regions of the HR diagram have been given names, although stars can occupy any portion. The brightest stars are called supergiants. Star clusters are rich in stars just off the main sequence called red giants. Main sequence stars are called dwarfs.
evolving into a later stage. For example, a G2 star going into a red giant (M type)
The largest stars would also be the brightest and that would put them near the top of the Hertzprung Russell diagram. The Sky Catalogue 2000.0 lists 50,071 stars of brightness down to magnitude 8.0. The brightest star is Rho Cassiopeiae with an absolute magnitude of -9.5, which is about 400,000 times more luminous than the Sun, and its spectrum is G2 like the Sun.
White dwarfs.

On the main sequence.
You need to know the luminosity and temperature of star in order to plot it on the HR diagram.

The main reason that the HR Diagram is so useful and important to scientists is, you can tell the size of the star by plotting it on the HR Diagram. The different sizes of stars form a pattern on the HR diagram.
