Lots of things like its hills, the island in the middle of the city, the bells of Shandon, its university, its architecture, the nearby town of Cobh where many people left for America and where the Titanic made its last call before starting its ill-fated journey, Blarney Castle being on the edge of the city, the Jack Lynch tunnel which goes under the River Lee, the annual Jazz Festival each October, and many, many other things.

It is the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland, after Dublin. It is the main city on the south coast, and in the county of Cork and in the province of Munster. It would be an important port. Close to the city is the port of Cobh, which was the last place the Titanic visited before it sank. Cork would provide a lot of employment for that part of Ireland. It has many major industries there. It has a lot of important Irish history associated with it. It is an important for sport. For all of these and other reasons, it is an important city in Ireland.
