The color of blood is red, due to the high amount of red blood cells, which constitute a large majority of the make up of blood. The red blood cells themselves gain their color from the hemoglobin molecule, which is what allows the red blood cells to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide around the blood. Specifically it is the iron molecule, with its affinity for oxygen that allows not only the blood to transport this oxygen, but also gives it the red-ish hue. If you notice rust, which is iron-oxide (both of which are found in the hemoglobin molecule) is also the same redish color.

No your blood is not blue like everyone seems to believe. It is red. The reason is when your blood cells lose oxygen they turn blue and float to the surface of your vessels. If your blood was all blue you would be dead because you wouldn't have any oxygen in your system.

The first person who wrote this awnser is wrong when your blood is inside the body it is blue not red. If you look at your wrist you will see blue veins, well that is your blood showing through the veins because veins are transparent your blood on the inside is blue because it hasnt made contact with oxygene yet but if you have an Injury you will see that that your blood is red, that is what happens to your blood when it hits oxygene.
