Wind creates the surface currents that move water from the equator towards the poles. Water at the poles cools downs. The density decreases and it sinks. Water below the surface moves to areas with less pressure as it is pushed from above. As surface water is blown away, water from below the surface pushes up in an upwelling to take its place. Then the cycle repeats itself.
In the Earth's atmosphere, there are 4 steps:
1. Warmed air rises nearer the ground
2. Displaced by cooler air, it flows toward the upper atmosphere
3. Cooled by the lower temperatures, it descends (sinks)
4. It flows toward the groundas cool air to start the cycle again.
The Low Pressure system is the active feature within the Earth's atmosphere, MEANING that High Pressure systems exist only where there are NO Low Pressure systems; and that whereas at the center of a Low the air is moving [sometimes violently] upward, that air re-descends within the middle of the High pressure systems.

This describes what happens in a convection cycle.
a convection current
convection drives the earths atmosphere, and dictates the distribution of life in the worlds oceans. ;D
convection currents r a cycle of heat in the mantle. the energy is produced by the heat in the core. the heat rises it becomes cooler and has a greater density. when the desity starts to decrease, it gets hotter and goes round and round in the cycle for many years. but, when the heat is on the top and it rises, the mantle can open up and cause sea floor spreading to occur.
Actually, there are many ways for a convection current to form. So, if you asked this question, here is one way:A convection current forms when Hot air and Cold air form a cycle and mix. . .That's one way!ToodlesByee
Convection has a cycle of what happens. Conduction dosent have a cycle

Convection is responsible for winds and currents...... maybe..... I don't really know....
