The "Corn Belt" region in the United States is comprised of six states and is where the majority of the nation's corn is produced. It roughly covers western Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, eastern Nebraska, and eastern Kansas, in which corn (maize) and soybeans are the dominant crops. Minnesota is not included in the "Corn Belt" region but they are the 4th largest producer of corn in the US.

The corn belt in the US is found in the eastern part of the Great Plains. Too far west, the amount of rain is too low and corm will not grow as well. Wheat is often found there.
There isn't just one state that has be best fertile farmland. Those states that are in the corn belt are those that were once historically prairie. This includes states like Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa, etc.

The grain is fed to animals, either on the farms themselves or in special complexes or on feedlots. Although corn is produced in the Corn Belt, it is not necessarily the ultimate product, beef from cattle and pork from hogs and pigs are.
