In the United States, the constitution is a document that gives the instructions for establishing the Federal Government. It explains how congress will be organized and its duties. It establishes the presidency and gives a brief description of its duties. It establishes the supreme court and authorizes lower courts. Then it has amendments which restrict the power of the government, clarify issues, straighten out problems, and provide more freedoms.

It is much shorter than the constitutions of most other nations.
