Which is better nvidia or ati?

Ati cards are usually colored red,along with the heatsinks and fans,And nvidia cards are usually black. Now nvidia is considered to be better for gaming than ati, but ati is better for rendering and autocad stuff. in my opinion nvidia cards are better than ati, might i recommend for gamers on a budget the 9800 GT and then the higher cards get more expensive but are faster.Also ati cards really get hot compared to nvidia and ati is also owned by AMD. hope this answers your question!

This depends on what your needs are. nVidia cards are good for design and engineering duties. Their $4000 quadro card is a 580 gtx with extra ram and optimized drivers for doing CAD work. It's difficult to beat that card for doing tasks it's optimized for. For gaming, ATI Radeon graphics look better and the Radeon cards play games a bit better (motherboards org)

Each year things change. In 2007/2008 nvidia had the better top card. In 2009/2010 ATI was better. Going into 2011 its more difficult. If you want the fastest single card then you'll go for ATI's 1.2 year old Radeon 5970. If you want the fastest 2 card setup then you'll go for 2 of nvidia's new 580GTX cards. Nvidia jumped into the 3d game early with nvidia 3d Vision but chose the wrong technology (ngohq.com, inquirer) limiting their users to buy 1 kit which wasn't compatible with other existing 3d technologies. ATI waited before getting into the 3d game and now has an open 3d initiative using their HD3D technology which allows users to use any 3d technology when playing games.

If you aren't talking about their cards and instead about companies ATI wins for being quality orientated and trying to keep prices down for their users. The Nvidia company has a reputation for dishonest business dealings related to their ageia physx product and the CEO J Huang is known to disregard facts when dealing with media.

Answer: An AMD Phenom II X4 965. Even though AMD processores are cheap, you get exactly what you are looking for. I would go with the quad-core mainly becasue the clock speed is faster than the 6-core and 8-core at stock of 3.4GHz.

Mainly anything AMD is your best friend. When they say you are getting 8 cores, you are getting the full 8 cores and not some dope that Intel is pulling with 4 cores and 4 vertual/imaginary cores in the i7 and the newer stuff coming out.

The Phenom II X4 965 Quad-Core does get a bit hot at times, but it idles at 42-45C.

New Answer: I would defiantly go with ATI (AMD) mainly because the Radeon Graphics Driver is open-source and stable. I have never owned a Nvidia in my life but I am pretty sure that they have very similar graphics. Another reason why I would go with Radeon any day over Nvidia is because Radeon is not anal about drivers and updates like Nvidia. I have heard many problems when it comes to updating them. Another thing to consider is that when purchasing an AMD AM3(+) motherboard that comes with the Radeon FX unlocked, you might as well get an ATI GPU for the extra good looks.

Do note that Nividia's stocks and popularity is dropping while ATI/AMD CPU and GPU stocks are rising and becoming more popular and except able at a rapid rate, making more PCs and Laptops cheaper on bother the production and the consumer side of things. So again, ATI/AMD mainly because they are easier to upgrade, update, and mod since the cards use open-source drivers.

Depends on whether you will have more than one graphics card, what graphics card you pick and the game you will play, including other stuff. so just depends on what you think.
