Apart from both being broadleaf trees, there is little similarity. They are two entirely different species of tree.

It would certainly be possible for someone to identify many leaves and plants from touch and smell. I could easily tell the difference between a maple and an oak tree.
a yew tree is part of coniferous trees so it may have cones. the yew tree is poisonous to eat though. an oak tree has acorns.
