Not very similar at all. The Odyssey is the story of Odysseus' return trip from the Trojan War, and Star Wars covers essentially two civil wars. While Odysseus is the main character, Star Wars covers the stories of several characters: Luke and Leia Skywalker, Han Solo & Chewbacca, R2-D2 & C3P0, Darth Vader, and Obi Wan Kenobi, just to name a few. Simply put, the movies do not match up enough in any respect to have any meaningful comparisons.
But it might be worth your while to take a look at some comparisons in the Iliad. Specifically, the characters Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are very similar to the Iliad heroes Odysseus and Achilles, respectively. If you look more closely at the two stories, you might find more in common.
The answer depends on the answerer and what their opinions are. But to this answerer, who has never seen The Lord of the Rings, the only difference I know is that Lord of the Rings is fantasy on only one location while Star Wars is an outer space "Opera" series that is on countless locations
In the clone wars, the clones were on the bright side, but then in star wars, they were on the dark side.

The Hobbit is set about 60 years before most of the events in The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit was published in 1937. The Lord of the Rings did not come out for over 20 years after that. It took Tolkien a long time to write the follow up.
