Ct scanning protocols for head trauma?

A brain scan after a head trauma is nearly always done without contrast, because bleeding also shows up white on the scan. The scan should be done as quickly as possible with the shortest scan time because patients with head injuries are often restless. If there is a suspected neck injury, the patients head will have be scanned in the position it is in, and the patient can not be moved into the 'head box'. After the scan, both brain and bone setting views should be looked at to establish if there are any fractures.

What is the difference between a body cat scan and a general cat scan?

They are just as they say. An abdominal cat scan is just of that area and a pelvic cat scan is just of that area. Usually if an abdominal cat scan is ordered a pelvis is included so as to cover all things in both areas but if a pelvic cat scan is ordered it usually does not include the abdomen.

Does the head go into the tube in a pelvic CAT scan?

Generally the head goes in first. This is the default setting on most CT scanners.

What is the difference between ultrasound A scans and B scans?

A stands for Amplitude, and B stands for Brightness. B-scan technique basically combines a series of A-scans, taken from a range of different angles to form a 2d image. Whereas, A-scan only gives a graph-image of reflected intensities in a c.r.o. screen. The probe for B-scan contains smaller crystal in various orientation unlike single large crystal in A-scan technique.

Why are CT scans used in sinus studies?

Brain scans can detect tumors, strokes, and hematomas (collections of blood that have escaped from the vessels). The introduction of CT scanning, especially spiral CT, has helped reduce the need for more invasive procedures such as cerebral angiography

What does total opacification of right frontal sinus mean?

When looking at a CT of the sinuses, they should appear black meaning they're devoid of any materials. Opacification of your right frontal sinus means the sinus cavity just above your right eye is showing opaque in a CT scan which normally is a sign of inflammation or infection. Polyps and tumors will also show up opacified in the scan. If you're concerned, I would pay a visit to your local ENT.

What caused cheek numbness?

I have this problem and my ENT believes it is related to a sinus problem. It's been going on about twelve weeks. A CT scan shows an infection of the sphenoid sinus on the left side. Also my lips sometimes feel numb.
