You are more careful to use the correct grammar and careful what you say. Your communication is more clear because you study a topic, and you present this topic to several people. College class is more of a debate. Casual conversation with a friend is more personal and less informal. You can be yourself and more laid back. You may not talk on the same level as a college class setting. Sometimes friend have tendency to use in proper grammar even thought they know the correct grammar. With a casual conversation with a friend , you don't have to present a topic to he or she in detail as in a college class setting.
