I don't think you can separate the two, really, as they are both essential food groups. Grains are important as a source of carbohydrates - that which our body uses most as an energy. Not having enough grains - especially whole grains - in your diet can be seriously detrimental to your health.

Equally important are vegetables, as they provide all sorts of essential vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function properly.

In general, eat lots of fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes, and eat meat and diary in moderation.

A grain is a seed.

Strictly speaking, a vegetable is the plant or the root (e.g. celery stalk or carrot) of a plant.

The word is commonly used to include non-sweet fruit such as tomatoes, however, so let's include those for the purpose of this answer.

With a tomato, you have the fleshy, juicy part that you eat and it contains the seeds.
