A pilgrim is a dedicated follower of a religion, who has set out on a religiously motivated journey, or pilgrimage, usually traveling to a sacred monument or place within their religion. A tourist is someone who travels to an area to, for example, view the landmarks and sights, and possibly sample the lifestyle of the people of the country he has traveled to. In short, Pilgrim - Religion, Tourist - Recreation.
3rd June 2009 The essential difference between going to Lourdes as a tourist or as pilgrim is intention. When one visits a place as a tourist it is for the purpose of looking at buildings, enjoying good weather and having a good time; the focus is on the tourist having fun. A person who goes to Lourdes (or indeed any sacred place) does so for a variety of spiritual reasons: seek guidance from God, draw closer to God, give thanks for a blessing, spend an extended time in prayer, seek forgiveness for sins, visit place considered sacred for some reason, be with people who share the same faith. Lourdes has an added dimension in that people also go there to help the sick or to seek healing from some (not necessarily physical) illness. Lourdes is a place where those who are ill are treated with great honour and respect; they are supposed to always have priority on the street and in cafes. Unlike a holiday, the focus of a pilgrim is the journey to draw closer to God in some way. (Please see related links)
I guess one way of defining the difference is to say that a tourist would be somebody who goes on holiday and stays in one place however a traveller may go from country to country. Dunno how to go in depth really though
a pilgrim goes somewhere to focus their time on God however a tourist goes some where as a holiday or to look around and find things out.
A journey to a place of religious or spiritual significance is usually called a pilgrimage.
Because Spirituality is awareness, if you do not grow you remain asleep to the reality and a prisoner of the world which is the collective consciousness. On the other hand when you grow Spiritually, you awaken and become more of a tourist capable of directing your life towards your own desires. Behind the mind lies the Promised Land
The Catholic faith was introduced to the Philippines when Ferdinand Magellan landed in the Philippines in 1521, however it wasn't until 1565 when the first permanent Spanish settlement was established by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi in Cebu that Catholicism started to spread. As a result of more than 300 years of Spanish rule Catholicism became the predominant religion. The first Christian Filipinos were Rajah Humabon and Queen Juana who were baptised in Cebu on the spot where Magellan planted the cross that has become a Cebu tourist attraction.
The word messiah has come from the the word "SIAHAT" which means tourism.Ibn-e-Mariam was called messiah because of his tourist altitude.Jesus used to move from one place to other, town to town, village to village and country to country.Prophets used to move place to place delivering the message of god but no prophet had visited as such areas as Jesus and that is why he is given the name of Messiah by Allah. Some people call the doctors, healers, helpers as messiah.this is so because The Holy Bible state in some verses that Jesus used to heal the wounds, treat the uncured diseases and put the lives in the dead people.Despite the fact that all these sayings are metaphorical and Jesus did that just as all other prophets of god that is to heal the wounds of spiritual illiteracy, cure the diseases of darkness and alive the dead spirits, the concept of calling a doctor as messiah is spread by the christian doctors and priest during the colonial period who came who came in Africa and Asia under the umbrella of Bible. This has been popular to such extent that ,today every second helper is called messiah.

The Lake of Lourdes is a completely separate place to where St. Bernadette saw the Virgin Mary. She saw her close to the river Gave, in a place that was then known as the Massabielle. When in Lourdes, people do go to the lake of Lourdes, but it is only a tourist attraction for activities and sight seeing, but has nothing to do with the apparitions or the religious aspects of Lourdes.
There is no difference, the only this that is different is the name .
