the tubular battery you refer to contains a zinc anode, a manganese oxide cathode, and potassium hydroxide electrolyte. the automotive battery is a lead-acid battery, with very strong (4.2 M) sulfuric acid, lead oxide cathode, and a lead anode. i hope you didn't try dissecting any batteries before asking. if a tiny droplet of sulfuric acid got in one of your eyes, you'd be blind in that eye. by the way, if you've ever blamed the weather for a dead car battery, the weather actually isn't to blame, unless it was really hot. both half reactions for the lead-acid battery are spontaneous at low temperature, so you might say the automotive battery is very well engineered. hope this helps.
