An airline is a company that operates aircrafts, and airway is a specific routing used by aircraft to navigate, sort of like a road in the sky. Some airlines refer to them selves as airways much in the same way a train company would refer to them selves a railway, or trucking company as roadways (ie "southwest roadways shipping company").
