Nortenos are a mostly(but not exclusevly) a Hispanic more specifically a Mexican gang that is under the Blood Alliance. The Blood Alliance has several gangs under it like:Bloods, Pirus, Nortenos & Brims just to name a few.
Nortenos used to be under control of Nuestra Familia but they went defunct. Now they are under the Blood Alliance. Any Norteno that claims they're not a Blood are FAKE.

Bloods wear mostly red to sometimes just a little blue to differenterate themselves or make them distinct from other fellow bloods.
Their choice of words like "What's up Blood." is common. Hardcore and well in-doctrinated bloods will never write the letter c, or write the letter C with cross it diagonally, kinda like a no sign, to even replace the letter C with the letter B like Compton is spelt Bompton by Bloods. A very good example is Bickin Back Being Bool.
But the one sure way, almost 99% of the time, ask them what was the first sign or first gang they ever threw up. If they throw up the blood gang sign, then most likely are bloods by muscle memory, which you have to keep practicing it for muscle memory and can be lifelong even after many years of not being criminally involved or in defunct.
The 100% way of knowing for sure is either the clothing says "Blood" or "Piru" on it to even the exact name of the gang set like "Lincoln Park Blood". Another 100% way is tattoos that symbolize the "Bloods". It may not be blood drops but it's a considerable factor.
Meanwhile Nortenos are simpler and a lot easier to identify because they are exclusively to Northern California only, others claiming Nortenos outside Northern California are actually called DownState which are actually random gangs in Southern California and Out-Of-State that are allies with Nortenos and are allowed to use Nortenos symbols, often because a Norteno is visiting and conducting business with that random gang, most gangs
do hang out with their allies.
The Nortenos gang color is mostly or all black with a single item or pair that is red like a red bandana or red shoes. Or a black bandana with red designs.
