Both are elements.

Hydrogen (symbol, H) belongs to group 1, has one proton and one electron and is highly reactive element. Hydrogen exists as a diatomic gas (H2).

Helium (symbol, He) belongs to group 8, has 2 protons and 2 electrons and is chemically inert as it has completely filled orbitals. Helium exists as mono atomic element.

Hydrogen is lighter, usually just a single proton in the nucleus. Helium has two protons and practically always two neutrons, so it is four times heavier. Hydrogen is highly reactive whereas helium, the lightest noble gas, reacts rarely with other elements.

In the fusion processes within the Sun, the reactions are dominated by hydrogen being fused into helium. Alpha particles are decay products of some radioactive elements and have the same form as helium nuclei. This is the source of much of Earth's helium. Hydrogen is much more abundant in compounds, notably as water.

Is it true stars like the sun burn hydrogen producing helium?

All stars fuse hydrogen into helium - the slight difference in atomic weight between 4 hydrogen atoms and one helium atom, is given off as radiation.

How is the formula for hydrogen different from the formula for helium?

I am unsure what you mean by the formula for Hydrogen and Helium because both are an element, not a compound and you would generally not have a formula for an element. However, I can tell you that the difference between the formula for Hydrogen gas and Helium gas if; Hydrogen gas: H2 H-H Helium gas: He Hope this helps

How can you tell the difference between helium and hydrogen gas?

The easiest way to distinguish them is by the combustion test. Hydrogen is flammable and will burn. You can also pass hydrogen, which is reactive, through various solutions and it will be combined, whereas helium will almost never chemically react.

What is difference between helium and deuterium atomic structures?

The difference between helium and deuterium in the aspect of its structures all boils down to the configurations of its subatomic particles. Helium has 2 protons and electrons and 2 neutrons whilst deuterium, an isotope of hydrogen, has 1 proton, electron and neutron.

What is the difference between hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen fussion?

In fuel cells the hydrogen is oxidised to water. In fusion 2 different isotopes of hydrogen (deuterium and tritium) fuse together to form helium.

What does nuclear fusion give the sun?

The sun fuses hydrogen into helium. The mass of the resulting helium is not the same as the original hydrogen. The difference is energy.

What nuclear reaction happens between hydrogen and helium in the sun?

Nuclear fusion, in which hydrogen-1 is fused into helium-4.

What is the difference between a red and a blue star?

A red star is fusing mostly hydrogen while a blue star has depleted its hydrogen supply and is fusing helium into heavier elements.
