AP has a title page and a memo doesn't. AP has a header and a memo does not. AP is double spaced and a memo is not. A memo has sender, recipient and subject in upper left and is single spaced. A memo does not have a reference page.

Memos are typically shorter, more concise, and formatted with headings, bullet points, and numbered lists for quick and easy reading. Essays, on the other hand, are longer, more formal, and structured with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, following a specific format such as MLA or APA style.

A letter is usually addressed personally, either to someone known to you (e.g John Smith, Dear John) or to the occupant of a position in an organization who you do not know personally(e.g The Manager, Dear Sir,).

A memorandum is normally only used within an organization as a formal advice and may be addressed to one, several or all those on the staff.

An essay needs to tell --> who, what, when, where, why. A memo is just a note to yourself. A reminder. It can say -> Dentist 2:30 Friday.
