The difference between selective breeding and genetic engineering is that selective breeding is when two organisms are breed together in hope of getting an offspring with the desired phenotype, while genetic engineering is the same concept except it deals with humans.

Selective breeding uses natural biological means to alter genetics--example is using a pollen from one strain to fertilize another strain and so "cross" the gene pools.

Genetic engineering artificially goes into the chromosomes to edit them--an unnatural process. Example--a cold water fish gene is put into a crop so that it won't freeze in the winter. This would not naturally occur.

Selective breeding is the breeding of animals or plants having desirable characters and natural selection is the process in nature by which, according to Darwin's theory of evolution, only the organisms best adapted to their environment tend to survive and transmit their genetic characteristics in increasing numbers to succeeding generations while those less adapted tend to be eliminated.

Natural selection is when traits that are necessary for survival are passed on to future generation. Usually, they pass on the dominant traits.

Selective breeding is also when traits are passed on to future generations. However, in this case, the traits are chosen to be sent off. They do not have to be a necessity for survival. They are usually recessive traits.

Natural selective breeding is carried out by humans who pick desired traits of a particular species that they may want to combine in new offspring.

An example is the multitude of domesticated dog types that all originated from the common ancestor of the Grey Wolf. humans selected traits (obedient wolves/dogs + strong wolves/dogs) to form a breed that would be more beneficial and productive. Nowadays it also applies for good-looking dogs :)

In a very limited way: natural selection and selective breeding are almost exactly alike, except that in the case of selective breeding (artificial selection) humans are involved in selecting which individuals get to raise offspring.

natural selection

What is the difference between selective breeding and natural selection?

In natural selection, the animals take time and evolve slowly. In selective breeding, humans can transfer genes from one organism into another organism.

How gentic traits inheritance differ in natural selection vs selective breeding?

Natural Selection is different from Selective Breeding beacuse the environment controls the traits the animal or plant gets. Selective Breeding is the traits desired are the ones bred

The selective breeding is affected by man who is much more stronger ifluence than the mutations done by nature themselves.
