The mosquito life cycle is comprised of four stages, whereas the grasshopper life cycle is comprised of only three stages. Mosquitoes start as eggs and then hatch into larvae within 24-48 hours. After 7-10 days the larvae turn into pupae, finally after 1-4 days in the pupa stage the mosquito become an adult. Grasshoppers hatch from eggs after 2 weeks to become nymphs. The nymph stage lasts 4-7 weeks, during which molting occurs. The final stage in a grasshopper's life cycle is adulthood.

Is it possible to determine the life span of the grasshopper or the mosquito?

Yes, a grasshopper's life cycle consists of three stages (Egg- Nymph- Adult) and one life cycle is completed in about 12 months which means that a grasshopper lives for about one year on an average. A mosquito on the other hand has four stages in its life span (Egg, Larva, Pupa and Adult). A female adult mosquito is expected to live for 3-100 days. A male however, live for only about 10-20 days.
