A compound contains two or more constituent elements in a definite proportion and also they are inseparable by any physical methods like distillation orso. But a mixture may contain usually two or more compounds and elements in an indefinite proportion and also they are separable by some simple physical methods like filtration etc.

Compounds and mixtures are very similar. Imagine a trail mix. This is a wonderful example of a mixture. Mixtures are combinations that require no chemical reactions. Compounds, however, are two different types of atoms chemically bond. Think of water, H20. This is a compound of 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. I hope this answered your question.
