Incandescent Lights are basically a glass cover inside which there is an inert gas, like nitrogen, argon (low wattage ones use no gas, just a vacuum)... and there is a filament which gets heated when current passes through it... the hot filament emits light and heat... whereas an LED doesn't have gases (or a vacuum) or a heated filament... it has a semiconductor junction which emits light directly by diffusion and recombination of electrons and holes.... thus it produces less heat... and its life is much longer.

The differences are large...

Incandescent bulbs heat a filament so hot it glows and creates light. Light quality is just OK. They last 1000-2000 hours.

A compact fluorescent lams (CFL) ionizes Mercury atoms, and their electrons emit ultraviolet (UV) light as they return to the lower energy levels they came from. This UV light strikes the coating on the inside of the tube, and it stimulates the emission of visible light. Worst light quality. Lasts 4000-6000 hours.

A light emitting diode (LED) doesn't contain filaments or raw elements, and pass electrons across a semiconductor junction (a p-n junction). LEDs create light directly from the movement of those electrons. Best and most natural light. Lasts 25000 - 50000 hours.

CF = Compact Flourescent. The inside of glass tubes are coated with phosphorous and an electric current is passed through a cathode to "excite" a small amount of mercury that is also there. The phosphorous then converts the ultra-violet light created by the mercury into light that is visible to the human eye. There's more to it than that, but that's the basic principle.

LED = Light Emitting Diode. They're semiconductors, and quite similar to transistors, but "emit" light when an electric current is passed through. No phosphorous involved. They operate at very low voltage, typically somewhere around 3 V. If they are used in standard light sockets then there is additional circuitry to convert line voltage to 3 VDC.

No, incandescent lights give off heat. LED do not.

How are LED's similar to incandescent light bulbs?

they light up

How hot do LED light bulbs get?

LED light bulbs normally don't get hot unlike the incandescent ones.

Can LED Christmas light strings be connected to incandescent light strings?

Yes. A Christmas light string composed of LED lamps can be connected on an incandescent light string. The outlet at the end of a Christmas light string has (or is supposed to have) the source voltage.

Which kind of lamps have longer lifetime led lamps or incandescent light bulbs?

Of course,LED light has longer life compare to incandescent light, because its lighting principal is semiconductor Lighting, which can turn the most electricity into lighting, the average life is 50000 hours, such as LED tube light and LED floodlights.

Which kind of lamps have a larger lifetime LED lamps or incandescent light bulbs?

By far the new LED lamps have a longer lifetime than incandescent lamps.

What are lights names?

* Incandescent * Fluorescent * LED (light emitting diode)

Can I get an LED light installed into my incandescent downlight cans?

Yes, absolutely. As long as the LED bulb and incandescent bulb have the same base they will both fit the socket. The LED bulb will also run much cooler than the original incandescent bulb.

A LED light of 3 watts gives off the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb of 45 watts This means that the LED light.?

A 3 watt led light is not the same as a 45 watt bulb. A led light is a lot brighter.

What are the advantages of LED fog lights?

LED lights are cool lights. More light is produced per watt in an LED light, verses an incandescent light. Even more energy can be saved if the light is solar.

Can you replace a 60 watt incandescent bulb with a larger led bulb?

LED bulbs com in different powers, so there's no way to tell. At a guess a 10W LED might compare to a 60W incandescent.
