The only difference is in the direction. Acceleration is when you increase your speed, deceleration is when you decrease your speed. Like pressing a gas pedal or brake in a car.

In more technical terms, acceleration is parallel to and in the direction of velocity whereas deceleration is parallel and opposite to velocity.

In any case, you can always call deceleration "Acceleration in the opposite direction of motion"

In physics, both are just called "acceleration".

Is deceleration a form acceleration?

Acceleration and deceleration are both the rate at which velocity changes, Deceleration is a negative acceleration. In an equation the rate of deceleration is shown as a negative acceleration valueCentripetal acceleration is different and represents the rate of change of tangential velocity. There is no equivalent centripetal deceleration.

How do you work out the deceleration?

Same as acceleration - just remember that "deceleration" is an acceleration in a direction opposite to the direction of movement.Same as acceleration - just remember that "deceleration" is an acceleration in a direction opposite to the direction of movement.Same as acceleration - just remember that "deceleration" is an acceleration in a direction opposite to the direction of movement.Same as acceleration - just remember that "deceleration" is an acceleration in a direction opposite to the direction of movement.

What is the definition of deceleration acceleration?

Acceleration is when speed increases. Deceleration is when speed decreases.

How are deceleration and acceleration related?

Acceleration and deceleration are related by their their sign. Acceleration is positive ( increase in velocity with time) and deceleration is negative (decrease in velocity with time).

What do you call a negative acceleration?

Deceleration- the opposite of acceleration.

What is negative acceleration also called?

Negative acceleration is also called as deceleration.

Why do scientist often refer to deceleration as negative acceleration?

Deceleration is often referred to negative acceleration because deceleration is not AA commonly used word.

What is deceleration uniformly accelerated?

It would be acceleration or deceleration, depending on whether the acceleration is greater than the deceleration or vice versa. dvA/dt = acceleration -dvD/dt = deceleration If you accelerate an object being decelerated, then the act is ( dvA - dvD )/dt

What is the meaning and formula for deceleration?

Deceleration is the rate of decrease of velocity with respect to time. It is the negative of acceleration. The formula for deceleration is the same as that of acceleration, only that the acceleration is represented as negative. The formula is: - (deceleration) = (final velocity) - (initial velocity) time Therefore, (deceleration) = (initial velocity) - (final velocity) time

Traumatic brain injury may occur after which of the following?

significant impact to the head & rapid acceleration/deceleration of the headBOTH A and C

When an object slows it has what acceleration?

Retardation or negative acceleration or deceleration.

Differentiate positive acceleration and negative acceleration?

A positive acceleration is a change in velocity such that the latter velocity is greater than the former velocity and is therefore going fasterwhile a negative acceleration or deceleration is a change in velocity such that the latter velocity is lesser than the former velocity and is therefore going slower. Now let us look at the equation of a uniform acceleration (the change in velocity is uniform):a = (vf-vi)/sIf the final velocity is greater, you will have a positive acceleration. If the initial velocity is greater, you will have a deceleration.
